I don’t think there is any way of making yourself a famous scientist on purpose. Some of the biggest scientific discoveries and the most famous scientists in the world (for example Charles Darwin and Alfred Russell Wallace) did not set out to become famous, but arrived at conclusions which had huge impacts on out understanding of the world!

      Hard work, luck and creativity!

These same things make you successful in almost any job: putting the time into becoming good at something; being in the right place at the right time; and being prepared to do something different.

Being realistic, I don’t think I ever will be a famous scientist because I can’t see myself doing research for ever. Instead I’d like to do something like advise the government on science matters.

      Hey lisar,

It may seem a bit strange, but im not sure that many scientists care about fame in ‘X-factor’ style. Personally, I want to be successful and respected by other scientists, and I want my work to help people and to mean something – but i don’t think i would like being famous.
