I suggested in the chat it is worth to look at job advertisements for science jobs. It usually tells you how much you can earn.

As a PhD student, the pay is not very high, but like most jobs, the pay tends to improve as you progress through your career.

I’d say I’m paid reasonably well, but as a scientist you’re unlikely to become mega-rich.

I’d say scientists will usually earn roughly the same as people like teachers, nurses and office workers, but less than doctors, lawyers and bankers.

Obviously this will vary depending on what job you’re lucky enough to get!

My job is well paid enough, and I’m content with the amount of money I have, however it is a lot less than some people with similar levels of qualifications. In medical research, this is partly because people are often paid by charities. If i worked for a pharmaceutical company, for example – one that develops drugs, I would get paid a lot more because they are a business. This isn’t something I’m interested in doing at the moment though.
