• Question: what do you think is the most most important scientific discovery to date?

      I still think it is the discovery of the double helix and the genetic code (sorry these are two but linked discoveries, one would not work without the other).

      I would have to agree with Werner on this one, these really are huge discoveries in the field of biology and led to many more subsequent important discoveries!

      I think the most important discovery is definitely the internet. Allowing people to communicate more easily has completely revolutionised the entire world. With regards to my job as a research scientist – it’s now so easy to look at the research that other scientists have published on the internet, or to send an email to someone on the other side of the world to ask if they can help with your experiment or want to work together.
