To me, science means discovery. As the world around us keeps changing, we have to keep researching so we can protect the planet and protect ourselves.

Science is an import subject for me. We as geneticists want to understand how genes work. This is quite complicated. There are multiple dimensions to think about (time, place, stage, position) and at the cell level, cell division and cell death. Its more information out there then we can keep in our head. We have to use for example computers to help us understand. We constantly have to make our computers smarter. While we are doing this, new information comes in all the time. We make suggestions how genes work, publish and constantly question our own work. Any new information could mean that we were not right at the time. It is not as bad as it sounds. I think we get a lot right and can make suggestions on how genes work that are valid and it is worth learning such principles.

      Hi Rose,

Science is really important to me. I think if you think about it really hard, there isn’t really any topic that doesen’t involve science in some way. I can’t imagine just letting things happen around me, without being involved in finding out more about why things happen. I’m similar to Werner – in that genes and genetics are my favourite science – I want to find out more about why people are the way they are and how genes control this.
