      Hi Beth,

Thanks for the question. I have always been interested in science, but when I was very young, i liked physics and maths better than biology or physics. When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with leukaemia, and this focused me more on medical research and genetics. I wanted to find out why i got ill, and also how the drugs and treatments I had cured me. In some ways, although it was unpleasant, I am thankful to this experience for making me who I am now – I wouldn’t be a cancer research scientist without it. You can read more about this here if you would like!
