• Question: why would you do this to fish? why not other animals or sea creatures?

      Hi Chanamy, the great thing in science is that you can first choose to work in one species (in my case Atlantic salmon), but can then use the information you find out to study similar things in different (perhaps more interesting species). In my case, salmon are an interesting model as they always migrate at the same time from a stream, which means we know the time when we expect to see changes in gene expression. I would love to study similar things in marine mammals like whales and dolphins, but it is very hard to get the samples which we would need from these species.
